Professor Guthrie earned his Ph.D. degree in Process Metallurgy from London University in 1967. He is a distinguished professor and has been honored for both his scholarly work and his intellectual leadership in materials science and engineering. Professor Guthrie is the author of more than 320 publications, 800 international presentations, 150 patents, 2 textbooks and the editor of 10 conference proceedings.

Processing of liquid metals, computational fluid dynamics, modeling (physical / metallurgical), filtration, inclusion sensors, iron and steel processing, cast house technology for light metals, refining, strip casting, vacuum technology.
