 Dr. Robert E. Sanders, Jr.

Dr. Sanders earned his Ph.D. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1978. He is the technical consultant at the Alloy Design Center of Alcoa. The relationship of microstructure to the final wrought product characteristics of aluminum alloys has been a continuing theme of his work. Dr. Sanders is currently involved in metallurgical education and the technology transfer from R&D to Alcoa's manufacturing locations. He also serves on the advisory board of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Sanders has served as Chairman of the Structural Materials Committee of TMS-AIME. He is the author of more than 35 publications, invited papers and presentations. Dr. Sanders holds 11 U.S. patents.

Research Interests:

Technology transfer from R&D to plant implementation, Metallurgical training for plant fabricating metallurgists, cost effective manufacturing method for automotive and container sheets, aluminum recycling, mentoring of young metallurgists, consulting and problem solving in wrought aluminum products.
